Autumn Security 2022

28th October 2022

TIPS FOR SECURITY THIS AUTUMN

Nights are getting darker earlier every day as Daylight Savings ends. In order to counter the risks that premises face, it is essential to evaluate your security measures and, if needed, upgrade them.

This is the time of year when domestic burglaries, in particular, increase dramatically,

Your home insurance or business insurance may cover burglaries, but there are some instances when a claim may be denied. Almost all insurance companies will require security measures, such as deadlocks on external doors and window locks. Furthermore, your insurer is more likely to reject your claim if doors and windows are left unlocked or security alarms aren’t activated when the house is vacant.

In spite of the increase in both targeted and opportunistic attacks during this time of year, it is always better to be safe than sorry by ensuring that your premises have adequate security measures.

HOW CAN YOU IMPROVE YOUR AUTUMN SECURITY MEASURES?

LIGHTING:

Install timers or floodlights. In addition to floodlights, timed lights can indicate an occupied property, preventing potential thieves from breaking in. These are inexpensive solutions that can make a big difference when protecting your valuable assets. Lighting is especially important in Autumn and Winter – without it, your property could be an easy target.

CCTV:

If you install cameras on your property or even dummy cameras, you’ll likely be able to deter potential burglars. Many Police investigations nowadays rely heavily on CCTV footage, which is extremely useful in identifying suspects and providing hard evidence of crimes, so if would-be thieves saw the cameras, this could serve as enough of a deterrent for your property to remain safe.

LOCKS:

All your windows and doors should be adequately secured using the appropriate locking mechanisms. Failure to comply with locking standards could result in your insurer rejecting your claim if your assets are stolen. Use lock mechanisms that comply with Governmental standards this will keep you covered in the event you need to place a claim.

SECURE DOORS:

You can protect the valuables within your property by investing in a Steel Security Door for either your home or business. Steel Security Doors can also be fitted with Access Control Solutions, such as anti-jemmy bars and multi-point locks.

SECURE STORAGE:

Securely storing high-value assets reduces the risk of targeted attacks. Cash, valuables, important documentation, and high-value equipment will be protected from unauthorised access with a Secure Cabinet or Cash Safe in either a residential or commercial setting.
