Protecting your valuable assets

1st April 2022

There is no doubt that protecting your valuable assets is something that we all do on a daily basis. Whether that’s your phone, wallet, watch, important documents, or maybe your business has valuable assets which need your protection also. Of course, the places we store them are the most important things to consider when trying to ensure their safety and protection. Depending on the security level required, there are always many options in the security industry available to match your requirements. Hence, we wanted to provide you with recommendations about the best places to store your valued assets in this blog.

Generally, assets such as phones, laptops and other electrical appliances can most likely benefit from insurance and more of a remote storage place at your premises. That should be more than enough for you to have peace of mind that they are well protected. However, highly valued items, watches, jewellery, documents, family heirlooms, cash, and others, will definitely require more intricate security measures. We recommend getting your items evaluated to help you make a cautious decision. Once you have a value in mind, the next thing to think about is finding a safe storage place for your items. If you own quite a large amount of things of high value, we suggest investing in a home or commercial safe. There are many types of safes available, depending on your personal preferences as well as the value of your assets.

If your high valued assets needs big storage space

Consider purchasing a graded safe which will provide you with very high levels of protection and large range of sizes. Here at SMP, we have safes from grade 0 to grade 6. Additionally, we can also manufacture higher grade levels if needed. The specifications of each safe grade are:

Grade 0 safes – £6K cash cover • £60K valuables cover

Grade 1 safes – £10K cash cover • £100K valuables cover

Grade 2 safes – £17.5K cash cover • £175K valuables cover

Grade 3 safes – £35K cash cover • £350K valuables cover

Grade 4 safes – £60K cash cover • £600K valuables cover

Grade 5 safes – £100K cash cover • 1M valuables cover

Grade 6 safes – £150K cash cover • 1.5M valuables cover

If your assets are highly valued but can fit in a small space

In this case, you might simply benefit from renting a safe deposit box in a convenient location. Safe deposit boxes are a perfect solution for storing smaller valuable assets, such as family heirlooms, jewellery and items that you worry about if they go missing. However, things that you might need in an emergency are best to keep at home as sometimes getting them from the safe deposit centre won’t be possible. Some deposit centres are not open 24 hours or might be further away.

We always suggest that our customers think of safes as a long term investment. Not only because of the costs involved but also because of the fact that people attain more assets in years to come. Buying a safe every two years might not be feasible and convenient; hence, we suggest thinking ahead and purchasing a safe with a higher grade. Regardless of whether it’s for your business or home, the benefits stay the same.
