Your security journey

19th November 2021

Knowing that your valuables are safe and protected gives you that extra peace of mind no matter where you are. Whether you need to protect your precious items at home or at your business premises, storing your things in a safe would give you that extra comfort you are looking for. There are many different types of safes available hence, choosing the right one for you may seem like a daunting task, but we aim to give you advice and help you with your security journey.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a safe is the value of the items you plan to store inside of it. After you know the value of your items, you can proceed to the next step. Additionally, you can check with your insurance provider to see what kind of coverage you require. Our recommendation is to invest in a graded safe for valuables worth more than £60k. Here at SMP, we have Grade 0 to grade 6 safes available. However, we also have bespoke services if you may need one. The grades allow you to choose the safe that can perfectly fit into your value requirements. If required, you might consider getting a graded safe that is insurance approved for extra peace of mind.

Please find the details of each graded safe below:

  • grade 0 safe – £6,000 cash cover and £60,000 valuables cover
  • grade 1 safe – £10,000 cash cover and £100,000 valuables cover
  • grade 2 safe – £17,500 cash cover and £1750,000 valuables cover
  • grade 3 safe – £35,000 cash cover and £350,000 valuables cover
  • grade 4 safe – £60,000 cash cover and £600,000 valuables cover
  • grade 5 safe – £100,000 cash cover and £1M valuables cover
  • grade 6 safe – £150,000 cash cover and £1.5M valuables cover

The security industry refers to graded safes as safes that have undergone rigorous testing to achieve their accreditation. For instance, for the safe to become graded, it must be designed according to European Safe testing requirements LPS 1183 Issue 4 and the European standards for safes EN 1143-1:2015. Furthermore, graded safes need to be tested and certified by LPCB and manufactured under the control of ISO9001.

Once you’ve decided which grade suits your needs the most, the next step in your security journey is to determine which size and what type of safe you need. We offer safes such as cash, deposit and underfloor. In addition, we also offer drug and medical cabinets, which are great solutions for business use. There are many size options available, and if needed, we can manufacture a bespoke size if you have specific requirements. The following step is to choose what type of locking system you prefer to use. We have key, electronic and combination locking systems available.
